Just like Bois-Plage, La Couarde is renowned for
its beautiful sandy beaches which stretch 5km along the coast, lined with dunes
and pine forests, offering the opportunity to sail, windsurf or simply lay out
in the sun. La Couarde
also boasts a port on the north side of the island in an inlet which protects
it from the ocean.
Right at the heart of the Ile de Ré, and
probably its true centre in many respects, La Couarde is ideally
situated if you want to discover the island on foot or by bike, either to the
north and east (Saint Martin, Le Bois Plage, La Flotte) or to the west (Ars
and Les Portes).
There aren’t just trees and beaches at La Couarde. Besides
the typical winding streets lined with whitewashed cottages, (one of which may
well be your holiday let), the charming church and tiny boutiques in the centre
of the village, you also have access to the cultural centre of La Maline, which is a cinema,
theatre and gallery rolled into one, a big summer market, a nine court tennis
club and many trendy bars and restaurants near the sea front, such as the Taxi
Brousse, not forgetting the open air nightclub of the Pergola.
In other words the perfect spot for family
holidays with both young and teenage children. |
